Windows Proxy Server Software

Windows Proxy Server Software

Our Windows proxy server is a high performance software solution for Windows environments. The Windows proxy server software can be configured to run in transparent or authenticated modes. The admin console of the proxy server allows for many rules to be configured such as inclusion or exclusion rules for web traffic. You decide what HTTP traffic is managed by the proxy software.

Rule based Controls - Many policies of the proxy server are controlled by rule based lists. Each rule can contain one of many matching patterns, followed by an action. This makes configuration of the CacheXpress Cache Server extremely flexible.

Real-time Logging and Event Notification - Enables system event logging and allows administrators to specify events to be logged and email alerts for occurring events.

DNS Caching - Caching of DNS entries to boost overall performance by eliminating latencies inherent in contacting a DNS server.

Enhanced Web GUI - The GUI is completely web-based allowing for remote monitoring and management at the proxy server.

Pre-Fetching - Pre-fetching capability enables CacheXpress to pro-actively download popular sites at a given time or time interval to maximize available bandwidth or reduce associated bandwidth costs.

Bandwidth Pools - Bandwidth utilization is controlled through port 80 (port 21 in proxy server mode), giving more control to network administrators.

Built-in Web Server - Delivered completely from inside the proxy engine, increasing performance and providing greater security.

Peers - Proxy Peers are selectable by either ICP, Round Robin, URL hashing, or combinations thereof.

Reporting - Track detailed user statistics and usage patterns using third party solutions from Web Trends and Web Spy.

Web Cache Communications Protocol - CacheXpress proxy server supports WCCP version 1 & 2.

SNMP - Monitoring via SNMP supported

About Proxy Server

A proxy server is a program that acts as an intermediary between computers on your LAN and computers on the Internet. Proxy servers often have a cache built in to make web surfing faster. Some proxy servers also allow the filtering of web content or domains. Additionally, almost all proxy servers support logging.
Just like other internet connection sharing technologies, only one internet connection or internet IP address is needed to serve internet data to all of the workstations on your home network.
Workstations on your home network must request data (like web pages) from the proxy server to access the internet. The proxy server then fetches the internet data, checks it’s filters, and returns it to the workstation that requested it. Because a proxy server does all of the data requesting, each workstation must be configured to make all internet requests from the proxy server - not the internet. Sometimes software does not allow this sort of configuration and can not be used with proxy servers.
Since proxy servers are not a ‘transparent’ connection sharing technology, configuring a proxy server for more than basic web, ftp, news and mail functionality can be challenging for a beginner.
